The collection contains a broadside dated November 18 5826 (1826), addressed to the Masonic Grand Lodge, Montpelier, Vermont, announcing the election of officers for the Salem, Ind. chapter of the Grand Lodge of Indiana. Signed in Madison, Ind., it includes the signatures of J.F.D. Lanier, grand secretary; Isaac Howk, a founder of the Indiana Historical Society; and Elihu Stout.

Elihu Stout (1786-1860) was a printer and publisher in Vincennes, Knox County, Indiana. He published Indiana's first newspaper, the "Indiana Gazette" from 1894 to 1806, and the "Western Sun" from 1807 to 1845. John Francis Bayard (1786-1853) was an officer in the French army under Napoleon, and a Vincennes businessman. Henry S.
